WHO IS ADVANCEMENT OF CIVILIZATION EFFORT?
Founder & Chairwoman – Alix Claire Erie
I have been building Advancement of Civilization Effort since 2012 across many fronts. ACE began as a blog and then became a series of writings, in the process of being edited for publishing. Eventually the ideas began to inspire discussion and gained enough momentum to develop into a weekly group video podcast with international board members Michel Combes, Mathew Jijo, Charles Ostman, and Daniel Feldman, and often included guest speakers. We discussed science, technology, economy, healthcare, education, government, spirituality, religion, the major conflicts and issues in the world, and the future of humanity. This podcast lasted a total of about 9 months, and in those sessions we designed a vision into what we as a group would like to see our civilization evolve.
From these discussions evolved the plans for several projects in the form of an intentional community, and it became obvious that ACE had grown out of its role in my life as a hobby, and I was making plans for this community that would keep me busy full-time until the end of my natural life span. Furthermore, the projects proposed will obviously require significant manpower and funding to execute. Therefore, in 2017 we finally took the decision as a group to file for the federally tax exempt status as a 501(c)3 charity organization. It is my greatest pride to be able to say that in July 2018, this status was awarded, retroactive to October 2018, making us eligible to receive many grants, large donations, and bequeathments, both public and private.
Now, ACE has entered into a period of slow growth, intended over the next 10 years, while I gather the necessary information, contacts, and resources to generate the funding for a piece of land where we will be able to perform our activities. I have chosen the island of Kauai, Hawaii as our home base, and over the next several years I will be taking the time to learn about the culture and entities that are already in existence, with the intention of giving honor and respect this pristine environment.
I hope that with all of your blessings we will arrive at our end goal for this period of gaining the respect of the local community here on Kauai and that we will be offered a permanent place and role in their ecosystem.

Charles Ostman has 35+ years experience in the fields of electronics, physics, materials science, computing, and various forms of applied AI and “artificial life”, including eight years at Lawrence Berkeley Laboratory at the University of California, Berkeley, and Los Alamos National Laboratory.
Primary focus was on specialized materials, including DSME (shape memory effect) metallic alloys, and various material systems with unique electronic and photonic properties. At Los Alamos, this experience was applied to work on the Antares Laser project, the world’s largest / most powerful defense laser system successfully demonstrated at the time (during the SDI / “Star Wars” development program)
Subsequent professional experience encompasses a diverse range of technical development projects at facilities including GTE Lenkurt, Integrated Automation, Litton Industries, Lucas Films, Phoenix Laser Systems, Omni Scientific Instruments, NanoThinc, Raytheon, Fujitsu, Evolutionary Networks, and a variety of other technology related companies and institutions.
At NanoThinc, a private nanotechnology consulting group dating back to the early to mid ’90’s, he was the director of media development, and also on the scientific advisory board.
Charles Ostman was the co-founder of NanoSig, and chair of the NanoElectronics and Photonics Forum, an organization with the primary charter of facilitating investment in nanotechnology related ventures, and senior consultant with the Strategic Synergy Group.
He was also a senior fellow at the Institute for Global Futures, a consulting group which provides strategic research, analysis, technical due diligence, and related technology centric development services to Fortune 500 companies and institutions worldwide.
He has been a longtime active member of the Millennium Project, an independent non-profit global participatory futures research think tank of futurists, scholars, business planners, and policy makers who work for international organizations, governments, corporations, NGOs, and universities.
This organization publishes the annual “State of the Future” report and extensive data which serves to provide a dynamic platform for developing workable potential solution sets to address complex, interrelated challenges which affect the world and its populations.
Charles also consulted with a technology development consortium, Fourth Venture, which focused on working with former Soviet Union military scientists, in the context of providing opportunities to redirect this resource toward commercially viable technology projects in the USA, via sponsorship from the IPP (Intiative for Proliferation Prevention) and DOE (Dept of Energy).
Charles has authored numerous technical papers and published articles, targeting general interest, business development, and technology centric audiences.
He is currently director of special projects at General Hydroponics.
